3rd Annual Camp Hana Hou

It has long been the dream of the Surf Happens Foundation to host a free surf camp for children fighting cancer.  Thanks to the support of the Brittingham Family Foundation, our dream has grown from a single day of surfing into a weeklong camp.  Families with cancer survivors are invited to participate in the 3rd annual Hana Hou Surf Camp June 23th through June 27h  at Santa Claus Lane in Carpinteria.  Hana Hou means “One More Time” in Hawaiian.  In this case, it means one more wave because campers always want one more!

The making of "The Plastic Experiment"

It was in 2009 when Chris Keet, the Executive Director of the Surf Happens Foundation, began learning about the North Pacific Garbage Patch and the environmental impact it was having on the ocean and its inhabitants. What he learned inspired him take action which led to the development of The Plastic Experiment, a local awareness campaign to reduce the use of single-use plastic items.
