Camp Hana Hou

Each year Surf Happens Foundation hosts a free surf camp for kids who have been affected by cancer. The day is designed for the whole family to experience a little bit of happiness and joy amidst the toughest of challenges. This year saw 20 participants experienced the joy of surfing for the first time.

Girls Inc. Surf Club

Surf Happens Foundation sponsors a weekly after-school surf "club" for girls ages 6-12 from Girls Inc.Goleta. They are given the opportunity to experience riding waves and gaining the empowerment surfing brings. The girls meet each week at the beach for a comprehensive, step-by-step education in surfing and ocean safety.

The Surf Happens Foundation mission is to share the healing powers of the ocean. We've recently launched our inaugural week long surfing camp for children living with cancer. The heling powers of the ocean are unprecedented, joined with a healthy sense of community you find a thriving camp experience! Surf Happens Foundation sponsored a Surf Day for 15 teen girls from the Girls Inc. Eureka!--a five-year college bound program that encourages girls to participate in science, technology, engineering, math, and sports. Some of the girls had never been in the ocean before. Everyone left empowered and inspired!

SURF DAYS

What a gift it was to share surfing with 45 eager young girls this past weekend. Girls Inc. joined with Surf Happens for a beautiful day of beach fun, environmental education, and tons of SURFING!! Big thanks for the support in making this day possible @Surf Happens Foundation, Girls Inc.

The Surf Happens Foundation funded a free surf day for the families of The Village, an affordable housing unit in Santa Barbara. The sun was shinning and perfect little waves rolled through all day. Thank you to everyone involved, this was truly a special day at the beach!

Ocean Stewardship

The Plastic Experiment is a short film that brings awareness to plastic pollution in our oceans. Fourteen year old Santa Barbara surfer, Decker McAllister, acts as the narrator and guides the viewer through a detailed look at the problem, and some simple solutions, to plastic pollution. The film follows Santa Babrara families that have participated in the 30 day Plastic Experiment to reduce the size of their personal plastic footprint.
On July 24th 2010, Surf Happens teams up with Pura Vida Church to present Playa Esterillos Surf Fiesta & Beach Cleanup! A group of Santa Barbara groms, and local tico kids and adults gathered for an all day beach cleanup and surf contest. Surf Happens provided cash and prizes to the finalists, pura vida!
