Surf Happens Foundation had great success at the 2015 Rincon Classic. They raised $4,000 dollars through the raffle, auction, and product sales. The environment was left clean as well; the High Five Program cleaned the beach spotless, with the help of many local groms.

Lakey Peterson Leadbetter Classic Results/Stories

What do you get when you take one of the most popular female surfers on the planet and plan a free U14 surf contest to raise funds and awareness for local nonprofits? The answer was 168 excited groms and their families participating in the first annual Surf Happens Foundation, Lakey Peterson Leadbetter Classic(LPLC). Launch of Girls Inc. Surf Club

Surf Happens Foundation is beyond stoked to have formed a healthy, long-lasting relationship with Girls Inc of greater Santa Barbara. We began talks with Girls Inc program staff in the fall of 2013 in hopes of creating an ongoing surfing program for the girls in their program. We started with one surf day where we taught 45 girls how to surf for the first time. The event was a success and we were hen able to raise enough funds to begin an after school "club".

The Village Surf Day

3rd Annual Camp Hana Hou

It has long been the dream of the Surf Happens Foundation to host a free surf camp for children fighting cancer.  Thanks to the support of the Brittingham Family Foundation, our dream has grown from a single day of surfing into a weeklong camp.  Families with cancer survivors are invited to participate in the 3rd annual Hana Hou Surf Camp June 23th through June 27h  at Santa Claus Lane in Carpinteria.  Hana Hou means “One More Time” in Hawaiian.  In this case, it means one more wave because campers always want one more!

The making of "The Plastic Experiment"

It was in 2009 when Chris Keet, the Executive Director of the Surf Happens Foundation, began learning about the North Pacific Garbage Patch and the environmental impact it was having on the ocean and its inhabitants. What he learned inspired him take action which led to the development of The Plastic Experiment, a local awareness campaign to reduce the use of single-use plastic items.
