First Annual Coffin Brothers’ Surf Out Goes Big

The conditions for the first annual Coffin Brothers Surf Out could not have been better and on a scale of 1-10 on the stokometer they were a 12. Hosted by The Surf Happens Foundation on Saturday August 8, at Jalama County Campground in uber consistent glassy 4-6 foot peaks, every nook of sand and reef as far as the eye could see was filled with the love. It was indeed a dream come true for the 100+ youth and families that made the trek to her shoreline.

Surfing Lesson & Beach Day for Youth Cancer Survivors & Family (VIDEO!)

This past Saturday the Surf Happens Foundation sponsored the 4th annual Camp Hana Houa free surfing camp for kids out-living cancer and their families.  This year saw 27 participants having fun catching their first waves. “This camp is amazing for these families who have been through the toughest of challenges, to give them a happy and safe place to feel free is incredibly important, ” says Cottage Hospital social worker Sebastian Lebeau.

Local Teens Get Free Surf Lesson To Encourage A Healthy Lifestyle (VIDEO!)

In 2014 the Surf Happens Foundation began funding free community outreach surfing days to local youth who could benefit from a day of physical activity outdoors. A year later SHF has had the privilege of hosting 7 individual days serving approximately 160 local youth from lower-income communities, and children affected by cancer and their families. This past week SHF sponsored a free surf day for 15 teen girls from the Girls Inc of Carpinteria Eureka! Program.

Second Annual Village Surf Day (VIDEO!)
